Take a Test Drive

Just like you would never buy a car without trying it out, you shouldn't buy a used boat without trying it out. You are going to want to see how smoothly the motor runs and how well it moves the boat through the water. You should also check out the gauges so that you see if they are working and if they seem to be accurate. While you are on your test drive, make sure that you spend a lot of time behind the wheel. That will let you see if anything is too stiff or too loose and if any of the controls are counterintuitive. If the current owner has to put the boat in the water, you will also get a chance to see how well it will fit on a trailer.
